Overlooked pattern #1 finished

I wish I could say that I’ve been exceedingly productive in lockdown but sadly I haven’t. I’m not unhappy being confined to barracks – far from it, I’m actually quite comfortable with it. But not sewing.
I started well with this project. Fabric dug from deep stash, pattern traced, cutting out done. And then everything stalled. Even when I tried to make real efforts to go into the work room and get stuck in I found other things to do.
Well, eventually I ran out of pencils to sharpen and other mindless things to do and DID get stuck in. What was my problem? This was not a difficult task.
I know many people are off by the sparce instructions in Style Arc patterns. That doesn’t bother me at all – pattern cutting training did have it’s benefits – even if cutting patterns isn’t one of them just now😂. The picture given by Style Arc is more instructive to me than the written instructions.
Anyway, all was going well, and I got them to a trying on point before putting in the pockets. I’m so glad I left the pockets until later as these were too big. I cut the 14 which matched my measurements most closely but after my alterations I know I want to cut the size 12 before I try again. What do you think? (Photos taken on my kindle so they aren’t magnificent).
The fabric isn’t brilliant, and I really should have interfaces both pieces of the shaped waistband (inside and outside) as I can see it’s buckling a bit. Despite this I’m pretty happy with these and will certainly try again in a better fabric. I have some rather lovely linen in mind…..
I’m being led by the nose here but I really do like the blouse/top shown on the pattern illustration (see last post). I was sorely tempted to buy it during the Style Arc Easter sale but reminded myself of the whole reason I’m doing these ‘overlooked pattern’ posts. It doesn’t look a million miles away from the Style Arc Toni dress pattern which I have so I might get round to adapting that rather than buying another.
So, one overlooked pattern down and off to choose the next one. There just might be something holding that up but more on that another time.

Before you even asked I was thinking how well the pants fit you. Thank you for the tip on interfacing both pieces of the fitted waistband to prevent buckling.
I’m using supplies in my stash rather than buying more so maybe a beefier interfacing would have sufficed but I’m still in favour of doing both next time.
I so need some trousers…and have several Style Arc beauties waiting to try. But for now, even more scrubs await lol

I’m with you on staying in, I am really enjoying myself. I have enough projects to stay put for quite some time. What I miss is seeing friends, and having dinners out. But this will eventually pass. Hope you and “the management” are doing well! 😊

Lovely fit on those pants. It’s a great style! I never mind sparse instructions, I probably wouldn’t follow them anyway😆. I’ve never bought a style arc pattern, only because I’ve so many Burdas that I’ll never get through. All the best ☺

They look great! I no longer buy style arc patterns as the sizing isn’t right for me. I know that they now give you three sizes (it used to only be one!) and therefore grading is slightly easier, but I sometimes have to grade down a lot between my waist and hips. I am also trying to modify patterns if I like shapes or style lines, I really don’t need more patterns!

This Style Arc was a multi size so I have ALL the sizes. I thought I might make some for my daughter (who is tiny) so paid a little more for this option. I need to trace the size down before I do another pair but I’m off in a different direction temporarily. Explain soon 😊

Well done for getting stuck in – I’m being creative with things other than clothing at the moment, maybe because I know I won’t be able to wear anything outside of the house for the foreseeable future.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that design feature before – the pleat partway down the trouser leg I mean. Maybe I don’t get out enough (even when I could).
The clear is anchored too and bottom. I was intrigued by it, and I do wonder if it’s going to get caught open on my knees in wear. I will report back.
I agree it’s hard to consider clothing when we could quite easily spend out current life in pj’s!

These look great, but I agree about the sizing down. And I had the same thought about the top and the Tori dress. I have a Bette top cut out, but no motivation to make it.
Just about everyone I know is having problems focusing through this lockdown. With so many summer plans canceled, I think that nobody feels like they will have much of a chance to wear new things. I hope I get my mojo back when I can show off to my maker friends again! I am still knitting, though.
The difficulty is knowing which season to prepare for 😂
Maybe we should just make some kickass pj’s?
Looks very good to me! I think at the top of my list right now is definitely casual wear! I’ve been at home wearing out my tee shirts and stretchy pants!!! Take care of yourself!

Love these on you Kym and the size looks great, presuming you had to remove quite a bit of excess. I’d really like to see them in something unapologetically bright for summer!! That Tori top is fabulous isn’t it? I wonder if these might be the sort of pants that would benefit from a wide elastic waistband, because they’d be so good for travel and weight does seem to fluctuate when travelling or is it just me?! Maybe just elastic at the back waistband?
The UK is really taking a hammering, but rest assured this plague will be under control at some stage and we look forward to welcoming you to our shores once again. Looks like I’ll be cancelling my trip to the UK scheduled for September – bottoms. Wondering how the management is managing his isolation? xx
Thanks Lesley. I think the shaped waistband is lovely but I can see that an elastic option for travel would be good insurance. I also tend to have some fluctuation whilst travelling.
We’re doing find here but missing all sorts of events we had booked – I’m probably most peeved not to see the Tutankhamun exhibition. I’m missing visiting family too. It feels like forever since I saw my daughter. Phone calls are good but just not the same! Let me know when you do plan to visit the uk.
